Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

We do not object to the awesome Phoenix Wright’s presence in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in any shape or form. What’s great is that Capcom just take the ridiculousness of putting the famous lawyer into their fighting game and run with it. His special moves include throwing papers at his opponents, yelling “I have MORE EVIDENCE”. He also hits people in the face with his infamous objection speech bubble. His Hyper Combo is bloody hilarious and has to be seen to be believed. Witness Phoenix Wright kicking ass for yourself below!

Square-Enix Show off Next-Gen Engine

Square-Enix have given us a glimpse of the future by demonstrating their next generation engine to the Japanese press. The engine is codenamed Luminous and is currently running on high-spec Windows PCs using Direct X 11. The engine is designed to re-create real-life locations with incredible accuracy. Square-Enix believe that once Luminous is released, it could cut the development cost of next-gen titles by as much as 30% and has the potential to shorten development cycles drastically. Check out a brief video of the engine in action below: Square-Enix have said that the engine is diverse and could be used for anything from small casual titles to mainstream console games. What do you think of Luminous? Source: IGN

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Fan Film is Pretty Epic

It seems a lot of people (us included) out there are very much looking forward to Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the sequel to 2006′s critically-acclaimed Oblivion. Just in case in-game trailers weren’t good enough for you, the talented guys at TryForce Productions have put together a live-action trailer, which I’ve included below. According to the films director, it only took a week to shoot and edit together. The team also had to work around a very limited budget. So the end result is quite impressive, right? I’m sure you’re counting down the days, but I thought I’d remind you that Skyrim will be launching worldwide on November 11th.

Full Length “Michael” Playstation Ad

A little while ago we got a hold of the latest ad spot by Sony. The ad itself simply teased another ad, which is apparently the way marketing is going these days! It really did give nothing away about what it was advertising or why. Well now we have the full length version of the ad which I have to say is pretty epic. Have a look below!

Gotham City Impostors Trailer Shows Why Being a Vigilante is a Rough Ride

You’re probably thinking life as Batman must be pretty kick-ass. Sure, your parents are dead but at least they left you a crapload of money and a deadpan, English servant to keep you company. If that wasn’t enough, then there’s the fun of dressing up as a bat and serving out a dish of cold, self-righteous justice to the criminals of Gotham. The below trailer reminds us that the Batmen and Jokers in Gotham City Impostors are, well – impostors! They’re every day people like you and me, except they spend the nights fighting crime and their days nursing their wounds and working a day job. The game is a massively multiplayer online shooter that pits a team of Batman impostors against a team of Joker imposters. I don’t know about you – but that sounds like a pretty neat concept to me. Check out the above trailer. It conveys the comical tone of the game very well and is guaranteed to make you want to find out more about it.

Need for Speed: The Run ‘On the Edge’ Trailer

The latest trailer for Need for Speed: The Run shows why living life on the edge isn’t necessarily a good thing because, you know, you could fall off it and die. The game looks like it’ll deliver the intense, adrenaline-fueled racing action the series is known for. I’m still not sold on the running bits where the game turns into Mirror’s Edge with quick-time events, though. Let’s hope Need for Speed: The Run delivers when it launches in the US on November 15th and Europe on November 18th.

Saints Row: The Third ‘Exploding Bullets’ Trailer is Brief, but Awesome

You know a game is going to be great when even a 40 second trailer makes you laugh out loud two times! I won’t spoil anything for you, but if the below trailer doesn’t at least get a bemused chuckle out of you then you my friend, are dead inside. In case you didn’t know, Saints Row: The Third is due out in Europe on November 18th. The folks in the US get it a few days earlier on November 15th – the lucky bastards!

The game’s save system and co-operative gameplay mode have been improved as well. You’ll also be pleased to know that West will once again be able to take pictures with his trusty camera. Check out the trailer below to get a sneak peek of Dead Rising 2: Off the Record in action. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will be releasing in the US on October 11, followed by Europe on October 14.

Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy Coming to Arkham City

Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy Coming to Arkham City

Even coming up to its release, Batman: Arkham City’s villain roster just keeps growing and growing. Apparently, Mad Hatter and Poison Ivy will be joining the likes of The Penguin, The Joker and Mr. Freeze in trying to take out dear old Bats. The news was revealed in the latest episode of the PlayStation Network’s online magazine Qore, in which a video of new gameplay footage of the game was shown. Check out the video below and skip to 3:38 to get a very brief glimpse of Poison Ivy, closely followed by Mad Hatter. Poison Ivy was of course a very memorable boss fight in Arkham Asylum. This is the first time Mad Hatter has been in a Batman game, however. Mad Hatter, real name Jervis Tetch; is a research scientist who grew up thinking he was the character from Alice in Wonderland due to his obsession with him. His weapon of choice is hypnosis and mind control, so he may cause Batman to suffer from hallucinations much like Scarecrow did in Arkham Asylum.

Yakuza: of the End Bringing Zombies to Europe in 2012

Yakuza: of the End is a bit of a departure in the Yakuza series. Instead of focusing on the every day goings on in the life of a Japanese gangster, it pits the Yakuza against hordes of zombies. Sadly, the game has only been released in Japan. That’s to change now, however as Sega have announced that it will be coming to Europe in March 2012 under the new name of Yakuza: Dead Souls. Check out the above announcement trailer to see a Japanese take on the zombie apocalypse. Here’s a description of the game from its press release: Yakuza: Dead Souls brings the Yakuza back to Kamurocho, the famous red light district of Tokyo, which is under attack from hordes of zombies. Players will not only face armies of the undead and incredibly powerful mutants; the treacherous Japanese underworld is just as merciless. Playing through the eyes of four of the most revered members of the series, witness allegiances shift quickly and the line between friend and foe lost. If you thought zombies were bad…meet the Yakuza! We know how much people love Yakuza in the West and with Dead Souls being the latest and greatest in the franchise its only right we bring it to them closer to the Japanese release than ever.”- said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA. Yakuza: Dead Souls features gunplay for the first time in the Yakuza series, where everything from pistols, machine guns and rocket launchers can be employed against your enemies. Just remember to save some ammo in case you run into something more terrifying than zombies! With all the depth and story of a Yakuza title, plus the addition of exciting shoot-outs and previously unplayable characters Ryuji Goda and Goro Majima, Yakuza: Dead Souls is worth dying for.

Flash 11 to Include Unreal Engine 3 Support

The Unreal engine has been around forever and powers a lot of console games including the Gears of War series, Bioshock, Borderlands and Rocksteady’s incredibly popular Batman games, to name a few. It’s quite an exciting prospect then that the engine will be included in Flash 11, essentially meaning it will become a part of your web browser. This is possible because Flash 11 improves 2D and 3D graphics rendering by a factor of 1,000. Epic Boss Tim Sweeney showed off Unreal Tournament 3 running on Flash 11 at Adobe MAX 2011 – an annual conference hosted by, you guessed it – Adobe. You can check it out for yourself below. As you can see, the results are at least comparable to consoles. There’s no denying that the potential here is huge. Imagine having console-quality software accessible through sites like Facebook. The engine is incredibly popular, so there will be no shortage of games to port over. What do you think of this? Would you be interested in playing console-quality games in your web browser?
