Here’s Your Complete Battlefield 3 Map List

Here’s Your Complete Battlefield 3 Map List

Are you anxious to play Battlefield 3? You’re not the only one. To tide you over, the official BattlefieldBlog has revealed the game’s complete map list with descriptions for each. It’s been stated that all maps will support all game types, but not every map will have vehicles and will vary greatly in size. It’s also worth mentioning that console players will see a down-scaled version of the map – which is understandable since the PC version will have a minimum of 32 players in a match with the biggest map capping out at 64 players. The console version will feature 24 players across all maps and game modes. Operation Firestorm FICTION> U.S. AND RUSSIA LAUNCH LARGE-SCALE ASSAULTS TO CONTROL IRAN’S BIGGEST SOURCE OF OIL. SECURING THIS AREA WILL OFFER FULL CONTROL OF THE SECTOR AND ITS KEY FACILITIES. DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts — one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 — within the playable area of Operation Firestorm. This is a wide-open desert map where the burning oil fields in one direction are contrasted by clear blue sky in the other direction. Construction sites dotting the area bring interesting possibilities for infantry to hide in elevated positions, spot vehicles, and take them down by mortar or RPG. Operation Metro FICTION> HEAVY FIGHTING IS EXPECTED AS U.S. FORCES PUSH TO SECURE THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT IN CENTRAL PARIS. RUSSIAN ANTI-AIR EMPLACEMENTS IN CHARDONNAY PARK ARE LIKELY TO BE THE FIRST TARGET. DESIGN THOUGHTS: Operation Métro is the map from E3 and the Open Beta, so some of you are familiar with it already. It is a map that perfectly illustrates that we want to take our players on a journey. Especially in Rush, you can see how Operation Métro is almost three maps within one: You start out in a lush park, then move into a bombed-out section of the subway tunnels, to finally emerge in a dense urban environment outside the Paris stock exchange. It’s a map that asks you to constantly adapt your class and load out for the diverse situations you will find yourself in. Tehran Highway FICTION> A FIGHT FOR CONTROL OF ACCESS ROUTES NEAR TEHRAN. U.S. FORCES MAKE A PUSH FROM THE HILLS UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS WHILE RUSSIANS HAVE SET UP DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ALONG THE MAIN ENTRANCE POINTS. DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of the inspirations for this map was a photo of a night time skyline of Tehran which now is basically the same vista that is available in the game. You start up on the hills above the city outskirts and eventually work your way into town. This atmospheric night-time map, where you can see rockets lighting up the sky, has a balanced mix between vehicle and infantry focus. It plays length-wise and starts semi-open with plenty of room for vehicles, but ends on a much more urban and…

Less than Famous Firsts: Your Favorite Developers’ Early Efforts

They may be big now, but today’s superstars of game development certainly came from humble roots.

By: Todd Ciolek
October 12, 2011

Everyone starts somewhere in the game industry. Few would-be auteurs are handed their own big-budget projects without first doing time in smaller roles. Of course, some of those smaller roles are part of major games. Many of today’s best-known game developers began their careers on important ground: Doublefine founder Tim Schafer’s first gigs came with such acclaimed LucasArts adventures games as Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island, while Deus Ex and Thief producer Warren Spector jumped into game development by working on the Wing Commander and Ultima series.

Other major talents from today’s game industry started off with humbler attempts. Their first games didn’t change the market or spawn successful franchises, and some of them were clearly planned as disposable pieces of a popular license or an ongoing series. Yet in each of these seemingly minor titles, there’s a hint or two of what their designers would accomplish years down the road.

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Still not on PSN

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Still not on PSN

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection was originally due to come out on August 31st. It released as scheduled on Xbox Live, but it has been completely absent from the PSN. So, what the fudge is going on? Well, Sony’s Andy Stewart responded to a user question on the game’s whereabouts on the PlayStation Blog and said that the game has been delayed due to a ‘technical issue’. Publisher Warner Bros. has been completely silent about the game’s absence from the PSN. A lot of players have complained that Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection is pretty much unplayable online. Warner Bros. posted on the Mortal Kombat facebook page that they’re aware of the issues with the game and are hard at work on creating a patch. It’s certainly possible that Sony are waiting for the patch to be completed before they allow the game to be sold on the PSN. The lack of information has certainly been frustrating for fans looking forward to playing the game. Let’s hope this all gets sorted out soon, so we can perform fatalities like it’s 1992!
